Disregard – I see that you’re assuming the use of two $1/1 coupons for the same purchase.

Are you certain that math is right? If one purchases 2 at 2.79 each (assuming 5 participating Mega Sale items), the cost is 5.58. Use a $1 printable coupon and get a $1 catalina and the cost for 2 is 3.58, or $1.79 each.
If you purchase 3 at 2.79 ea, it’s $8.37. Use a $1 coupon and get a $2 catatlina and the cost for 3 is 5.37, or $1.79 each again. Same for purchasing 4 (4 x 2.79 – 1 – 3 = 7.16, or 1.79 ea for 4).
As long as you buy 1-4 of these, it’s 1.79 each. At least as far as I can tell. Where does $1.29 come from? 🙂
