I recently had the opportunity to visit the Kroger Culinary Innovation Center for a complete immersion of everything Kroger and you KNOW how much I love Kroger, so needless to say I was in my element. I spent a couple of days mingling with Kroger executives, along with a group of incredibly talented food bloggers who each made a #RedWhiteAndBBQ themed dish for about 50 people and a panel of judges. This was seriously the most beautiful and unbelievably delicious food I have ever tasted. No joke.
My favorite part of the week has to be the opening breakfast and presentation on the Kroger Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative.
Zero Hunger Zero Waste is a national effort aimed at ending hunger in the communities Kroger calls home and eliminating waste across the company by 2025. Across the United States, 42 million Americans struggle with hunger. At the same time, an estimated 72 billion pounds of food ends up in a landfill every year. This is unacceptable, and Kroger is doing something about it! It was so inspiring to hear about this amazing plan and I’m already brainstorming ideas on how I can help do my part as well. The easiest thing you can do is make sure you’re participating in the “Round-Up” program. Did you know you have the opportunity to “round up” your total grocery purchase to the nearest dollar at the cash register? If your cashier forgets to ask you, ASK THEM because 100% of the funds benefits Kroger food bank partners.
The Culinary Innovation chefs prepared an unbelievable breakfast made from ingredients that would have otherwise gone to waste. I was blown away but what they were able to create.
Another highlight for me was meeting the man behind the Prep+Pared meal kit creations, chef Brandon. He prepared 2 of the new dishes he’s been “cooking” up and they were both absolutely delicious! It really gave me the opportunity to try something I would have never thought of on my own…along with exploring new flavors. We had a gourmet meal with fresh ingredients in less than 20 minutes! Everything you need is pre-cut, pre-measured and SO EASY to complete! The meals are constantly being rotated, so you will never get bored!

Just thought I’d give you a sneak peek into what we’ve been up to this weekend! Here at Kroger Krazy we are always endeavoring to make things BETTER! We all met at Kendra’s house in Marietta, OH (4 hour drive for Jacqueline and almost that long for me!). After smothering that baby with kisses we got right to work! First thing we did was roll out a HUGE reel of paper, got out the sharpies and started brainstorming! We’re working on a new layout for the site to make things easier to for YOU. Don’t worry, the site will look very much the same as it does now, but with more navigation options. This is a GOOD thing!!

So, this is LONG overdue. I have mentioned my “helper” a few times on the blog, but I wanted to actually introduce you to her because she is a HUGE part of the Kroger Krazy you know and love today.
Let’s be honest, the amount of work that running a blog like Kroger Krazy is literal insanity. I’m not saying that to boast, receive kudos or even sympathy…it’s just the truth. I’ve been doing this for 4 1/2 years and for the first couple of years I did it all on my own. I never slept. Those of you who know me or have been reading for awhile know that I LOVE my blog…it is my 2nd child and it’s my business. I rarely put my computer down. However, my blog has grown substantially and while the amount of daily posts we grind out everyday has not changed, the back end administrative workload has increased considerably. If I had to do this all on my own, I would be a crazy (crazier?) person.
She is the most amazing VA (virtual assistant for my non-blog lingo speaking friends) who every single day goes over and beyond. I ask a lot of her and she works it out like a rockstar.
She is a SMARTY! She is my brain.
Kendra is always Team Katie and Team Kroger Krazy. She is loyal. I could not ask for more.
One of my favorite expressions is “Hustle your face off!” Kendra takes this to a new level. She is the one who runs out to Kroger at 10 pm because a new coupon pops up that she just HAS to match up. In fact, she is at Kroger SEVERAL times a day scouting out deals for us.
She is the one who tests deals (like Catalinas) to make sure they are legit.
She gives me credibility.
She is invaluable.
Thank you Kendra for taking AWESOME to a new level. Thank you for helping to make Kroger Krazy what it is today. You are a dream. One that I hope continues for a long long time.
And as I always tease her… Don’t EVER leave me.
