If it is on sale for $2.99 and you use a $2 off coupon, then yes it would be 99 cents if you purchase that item alone. However, if the item for $2.99 is on sale and is part of the Buy 5 Save $5, then when you purchase in multiplies of 5 with any of the participating items for this promotion, then the $2.99 item would now be $1.99 and by matching the $2 off coupon, then the item would be free.
