I saw on the internet that Kroger was offering seniors a 5% discount on groceries. The article I read did not say the offer was invalid in Michigan. Unfortunately I also told a friend about the offer. After shopping at our local store on Grand River in Brighton, MI, and asking for the discount from the cashier, I was rudely told I was wrong and there was no discount. I feel I was given false information because I read that it was available nationwide. In these hard times, right before the holidays, 5% on my $149.00 purchases would have been very welcome to this senior citizen. Kroger needs to do better!

I do not believe this was a nationwide promotion, and I don’t believe Kroger put out a release mentioning it was. Whomever indicated it was is where any blame would go.
Anyway, I do believe all of Michigan (along with most of Ohio, and the whole Central regions) were to be included. Probably others. When in doubt, I would check the local ads (it was at the top of the first page).
I find them to be very accommodating when calling (800) KROGERS’. The amount would be pre-tax. So, if you paid $149 with $5 tax, it would be 5% of $144. Of course, typical exclusions such as gift cards, alcohol, cigarettes, etc.) If you explain your situation, asking for 5% of whatever the pre-tax amount is, they likely will give you that and a bit extra for your trouble. As always, honey instead of vinegar when asking.
I hope they fix it for you.
