Looks like it’s only a matter of time folks! Another Kroger region (Delta) has confirmed that they are no longer doubling coupons. Bill with Coupons in the News contacted me just a little bit ago and cofirmed such with an an official statement.
For those of you in the Delta region (which encompasses stores in Memphis, Arkansas, Mississippi, western Kentucky and southern Missouri) – this policy change will be taking effect July 10th. That means your paper coupons will only be accepted at FACE value.
There are promises of lower pricing to help offset this new policy change.

I also live in an area where Meijer recently quit their double coupon policy. Since that time I have gone from doing the bulk of my shopping at Meijer to doing most of it at Kroger – supplementing from Aldi as well.
I can see that more than likely, it is just a matter of months before doubling goes away at Kroger too. 🙁
I’ll be honest – I have to FORCE myself to shop at our Kroger. It’s layout is poor, the register area is too crowded and I just plain don’t like it there. The bus stop out front seems to attract a certain element as well and “witnessing” a scruffy man urinating in the organic foods section wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience the other Friday night.
Double coupons are the ONLY thing getting me in that door right now.
When it stops I’ll switch to Aldi shopping for my main place, with some deal shopping at Walmart and do random cherry picking at places like Meijer or Martins (local chain – nice stores but overall higher prices).
My main coupon focus these days are typically non-food items – the freebies or really cheap items – that I can’t get at Aldi. I’ll continue to stock up now in expectation of leaner times ahead!
Sarah
I live in an area where Meijer quit doubling and it’s hurting their business. It’s so slow in there now, and Walmart is swamped all the time now. They take everyone else’s ad’s so there’s no reason to go to Meijer.
If Kroger quits doubling in our area, Walmarts going to get even more business.

I live in the Mid-Atlantic region, and we just stopped doubles last month. The first couple of weeks, they had super prices on 5-6 items featured on the front page, and I would agree, the lower price policy has been disappointing. The lower prices are only 10-20 cents, except for a few items, such as cleaning products – some have been cut in half. Still they are now about what I could purchase at Walmart regularly. The new prices seem to be about what the average sale price used to be, so for couponers, it really doesn’t make a difference in the bottom line. Cutting doubles has made it more difficult to get good deals, but I did still get a few freebies on razors with last weeks sale. It definitely has affected my out of pocket costs. Also, the everyday stuff, such as milk, eggs, cheese etc is no lower than it used to be, nor has the meat department seemed to lower their prices at all.
Jennifer
Like everyone else, if Kroger stops doubling in Columbus, I will go to Meijer. I find they are cheaper anyway if Kroger isnt having a Mega Sale. AND the one I go to is a high doubler as Kroger only does the $1.00 value. They are going to lose a lot of customers, shame.
Kimberly
I live in the Dayton, OH area and our brand new Kroger recently stopped doubling coupons. The prices of items lowered for about a month, but they have been climbing slowly and just this week some soared unbelievably! For Kroger brand cheese the “sale price” was $1.77 in April, after doubling stopped. At the beginning of May, the “sale price” was $1.88. On Monday (6/24) I paid a SALE price of $2.18 for the same cheese! The regular price was over $3.50! I’ve written Kroger and the response has been a brush of with the “New Lower Prices” bit. That doesn’t fly when I have receipts from the past 4 months showing price increases! Cheese isn’t the only item following the trend, it is just the most recent one that has me fired up. My husband has banned me from shopping there unless the item is on a deep discount AND I have a coupon for further discounts. The fuel perks don’t make a difference if I can get the same items for a lot less at Meijer, Aldi, WalMart, or Target! Very disappointing.

I live n Hopkinsville but my ad says Louisville so does that mean I’m in the mid south region?
Kayla Starrett
Yes 🙂

I love shopping at kroger but if they stop doubling coupons in GA then I’ll go back to shopping at Wal-Mart. The doubling of coupons is what will usually bring Kroger’s prices down lower than Wal-Marts but without doubling I don’t have much incentive to shop at Kroger except shorter check out lines, which is just not enough.
martha siler
Since cincy stopped doubling, I have gone more to Meijer’s. Krogers has always been high and now without doubles, they are even higher.

I am in MS and just heard the news today. There is an article online that says the new “lower prices” are supposed to start tomorrow. Here’s hoping!!

I just know central Ohio region will be next! They stopped one region at a time to see how things play out. We need preemptive action! I am printing out all these comments and giving the to the manager of the 3 closest Krogers. Profits over customers once again…SAD.
Penny
Sherri, you can fill out customer complaint cards simply by going to customer service and asking for one. Ask for the manager if necessary.
I just had a GREAT idea. Print out this page with everyone’s comments and staple it to your customer complaint. They will see how many people online are against this new policy!
I also recommend a Facebook page dedicated to posting all these complaints. Grass roots efforts (and online) do make a difference.
Diana
There is a page on Facebook called “Bring Back Doubles” for this cause. I just found it!
Catharine
I live in VA and they just did away with doubling coupons. Prices haven’t gone down at all and in fact some of their prices have gone UP! I just got there to buy fruits and veggies when they are on sale now. I got to Martins(stop and shop) to do all my other shopping because they will double the 1st of any coupon up to $.50….not the greatest but sometimes it makes a huge difference
Brandi
I am in the Delta Region and the “New Lower Prices” are, for the most part, not lower at all. In fact, most are higher than before. Double coupons was the only thing keeping me as a shopper. So, when they stop, I will be shopping elsewhere.
AJ
I’m in the delta region and I will be shopping somewhere else after July 10! The people making these decisions are “suits” sitting behind a desk who have no idea what it’s like for us in the “real world” trying to make ends meet.
Good Luck everyone!
JoAnna
No way!! I switched from Walmart to Kroger ONLY because they doubled coupons. I agree that we should fill out comment cards, but we should also contact Kroger directly.
Lonnie
I’m in the Mid-South region (Louisville, KY) and as others have stated, I’ve seen 3 regions stop doubling coupons in the last year. I believe I can see ” the hand writing on the wall” when it comes to double coupons in our region. Double coupons is my MAIN reason for shopping at Krogers. I wonder what MEIJER will do if Kroger stopes doubling? Life will go on but without the joy of FREE!!
Kayla Starrett
I live in Louisville as well and I just know our area is on the chopping block. I will most likely be switching over to Meijer because that is our only other option. Maybe Meijer will eliminate the policy of only doubling the first two identical coupons per transaction! That would be great 🙂
Diana
I’m also in Louisville and know it’s just a matter of time before the doubling ends here. Ever since I’ve realized that it’s inevitable, I’ve been looking at my list and seeing what difference it will make (I make a spreadsheet for my shopping). And it really will only make a difference of about $3-5 on average for me per shopping trip. That still stinks, but I am saving much more money with the higher value coupons. As others have said, it will just be the end of some freebies I would otherwise buy (and I will really miss the free Pampers and Huggies wipes!). I have also started looking to Meijer in case I end up shopping there, too (but I’m sure I will still shop at Kroger).
Christi
Kroger does not seem to be lowering their prices. During last weeks mega event, 6 packs of bottled pepsi were listed as 5.00 regular price with a sale price of 2.99! 2.99 was the regular price prior to the sale! They are actually raising prices. I am very disappointed.
Sherri
Where can we fill out customer complaint forms? I believe we all need to have our own voice and explain what you’ve seen what happened to other Kroger stores had closed or is losing business because of coupon doubling policy ended and that we would be their forever customers and would help their business if they continue to double coupons and they should observe meijer and giant eagle still double coupons as they are still keeping their business running. They should reconsider if they decide to stop doubling, it would affect their business 100% big time.
Penny
Hi sherri, I replied to your post @ bottom of this page!
Kristina
DON’T COUNT ON LOWER PRICES! I live in Texas and our double/triple coupons stopped years ago. The ONLY reason I shop at Kroger is because my 16 year old works there and I get a 10% discount on Kroger brands (my staples)!
Deb
I live in the Cinti area/I never shopped at Meijer….but Meijer has really had some really good sales, and they double…only up to 2 of the same like coupon….still I’m shopping more at Meijer. Of course, they just announces another major profit increase up from last quarter! Boo
Mitzi Garrett
Just moved from Memphis to Nashville (whew! although I know it’s only a matter of time!) I RARELY shop at Kroger anymore anyway (shop at HT and Publix). If they do this I WILL BE GONE – period. Fill out the customer complaints ladies!!!!
Beth
Is Toledo oh, really considered Central region?
S.
I’m with you Penny-If they stop doubling in the Columbus region, I’ll just switch to Meijer.
Sherri
I am with you and Penny since I live in Columbus and I shop at Kroger 90% of the time because of great deals and coupons and if they decided to stop it, my only other 2 stores I will go will be Meijer and Giant Eagle (only when they have great deals) since they double coupons and yes Meijer doesn’t mind if I separate my transactions to use more coupons to save my multiple trips there. I’m fearing that columbus will happen one day since I’ve seen 3 regions now have stopped doing double coupons!!!
Elizabeth England
Hi Sherri,
I had a quick question please:) When you shop at Meijer they only allow “2” like coupons that double up to a 1.00, per transaction? So, if I had 10 bottles of shampoo, and 10 coupons that double I would have to have 5 separate transactions? Thanks so much!
Kayla Starrett
Correct! 🙂
Kristina
This is horrible!! This will really affect my family in a negative way! Thank you so much for letting us know though. I would have been very upset to find out at the store when I have all my coupons!
Penny
Fill out those customer complaint cards! If this happens in the Columbus, OH area, I will do most of my shopping at Meijer. Their regular prices are lower and they double.
elise
In the article is says they’re stopping doubling on July 10, so we still have a little time!
Dawn
Elise,
We better stock up then with what freebies we can get before July 10th.
elise
I’m in Arkansas and all the “new summer low prices” are literally like 10-20 cents cheaper than the regular prices. What a “sale”! ):
frugalfemme
I’m also in the Mid-South region (central Kentucky) and I know the store here will be in big trouble if it stops doubling — we also have a Meijer, and they are pretty coupon-friendly and don’t mind if you separate your orders to use more than the two identical coupons. Of course that might change if they become the only store doubling…but I don’t think so unless Kroger does close its doors here.
Kayla Starrett
I live in Louisville, KY and am in the Mid-South region. I fear it is only a matter of time before my region is on the chopping block. While I know it is not the end of the world, it still irritates me. The only other big grocery store we have is Meijers, but they only double the first two identical coupons per transaction.
I have noticed that a lot of these ‘lower prices’ are still the same price pretty much, with only a few cents knocked off.
I don’t know…we’ll see. Maybe they’ll change their mind! 😉
Kim H
I live in the Mid Atlantic region and just like Barbara said I haven’t really seen a big difference in price either. Most of the prices haven’t come down like I thought they would. Im still using coupons because I have to, but this has really changed the way I have to shop. Im not able to get the free stuff anymore 🙁 But to stay positive at least when I do use coupons Im saving something 🙂 I have noticed when I do go in to shop they are not as busy as they used to be.
Angry
This is awful.
Margaret
Well, at lease someone finally announced it. The last three weeks I noticed that some of the coupons doubled and some didn’t. When I would ask a cashier some said they no longer doubled, others would try to manually force a double, etc.
Of course I would prefer they keep doubling but I need clarity so I know what to expect when I shop and can plan ahead.
LuLu
I’m with you. Sad, but I knew this will happen sooner or later and now I know for sure.
Lora
Darn it!
Dawn
Really sad about this. This is the ONLY reason that I shopped at Kroger was b/c they doubled coupons.
Barbara (ClipperGirl)
I feel your pain. We just went through the same thing in the Mid Atlantic Region. Unfortunately, I’ve not noticed prices to be that much lower than they were before. They may just be hurting themselves by doing this. My local store stopped double coupons and six months later they closed down due to lack of sells. Hope this will not be a trend with all stores.
