As a busy blogging, home schooling mom and wife, life rarely slows down around here. If you are like me, you are constantly looking for ways to spend less time doing the job. If you are looking for some extra time-saving, money-saving practical tips then you’ll want to visit every Tuesday where I have partnered with Good Deal Mama, Jessica’s Coupons, and Rose Knows Coupons (AKA: The Tipsters!) to share our own individual tips that will either help you save time or money, or hopefully even both!
Today’s tip is brought to you by yours truly! 🙂
If you’re a sponge-user like me then you know all too well that unpleasant smell that starts to develop that you certainly do not want anywhere near your sink, let alone touching the dishes you will be eating from. You don’t have to throw that sponge away and buy a new one!! There is hope!! I have tried everything (bleach, lemon, anti-bacterial soap, etc.) but nothing is proven to kill 99.99% of bacteria like these two solutions:
If you’re in a hurry and it’s the only sponge you have, you can try my #1 solution: The Microwave.
- Soak your sponge really well with water
- “Heat” in the microwave for 1 minute
- Careful when removing…that little guy gets HOT!!
If you have a little more time, load your sponges in the dishwasher with your dishes and run through the entire wash and DRY cycle. I will warn that when you let it run through the “dry” cycle, it may come out a little deformed – but this is part of the bacteria-killing process.
Both of these methods are proven to inactivate bacteria. And Wal-Lah! No more stink! 🙂
