I went to my local Kroger this morning, and I was shocked when the cashier said they don’t accept paper coupons on the 5 for $5 items anymore. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I left there feeling very disheartened.

Sounds to me like they tried to scan it once, and when it didn’t work, they started trying to find out reasons why.
I usually have to scan my own to get them to work. (If you know the checkout people, they usually don’t mind). They either seem to scan the smaller barcode they scan it the wrong way. The barcode is long enough that if they scan it the wrong direction, there is no way it will even all fit on the scanner window at the same time.
I have had workers tell me they don’t take internet coupons.
I have had workers tell me printed coupons have to be in color.
I have had workers tell me they can only take a total of 2 printed coupons, not 2 per item, but two total.
Sometimes, they don’t know anything about their own coupon policy.
If what you are saying is true though, I don’t believe there would be any way for them to identify those. Most workers don’t know what 1,500 items are part of B5S5.
