In a Kroger Mega Event situation, you MUST purchase 5 participating items (in this case) to get the additional $5 mega savings ($1 per item). So, for example you have a cart full of groceries, but you count only 14 items. A filler item is what you grab to get your item count up to a multiple of 5 so that you can get the mega discount on all of your items. Preferably something very inexpensive that doesn’t require a coupon, because if you had a coupon – it’s probably already in your cart!

Thank you for this, I take my sticky note tabs to keep track of every 5 items in my cart.. filler items are a must for the greater good savings idea!! customers & cashier think I’m OCD, but in the past I didn’t add up the correct items, and didn’t get the discount.
Same here at my central ohio store I also don’t see them included on the 5 for 5 list from the store. Must be a regional thing.
Ms. Cubbison’s are 1.19 and not included in the sale at our Kroger or they weren’t as of last night.
